2024 Design Trends That Made an Impact (and What’s Coming in 2025)

Welcome to the last post of 2024!

It’s been an exciting year, and as we wrap up 2024, let’s take a moment to reflect on the design trends that made their mark and completely shook up the design world.

Every year brings fresh ideas that redefine spaces and ignite creativity, and 2024 was no different. Some styles claimed the spotlight in unexpected ways, and they truly delivered. Now, as we look ahead to 2025, I’m thrilled to see how these trends evolve, and I can’t wait to dive into the new ideas coming our way.

2024 Trends That Made a Statement

1. Ceilings Took the Spotlight

This year, ceilings truly stepped up… and I couldn’t be more obsessed. From bold paint colors to intricate patterns, they went from being an afterthought to becoming full-on design showstoppers. It’s like giving every room its own unexpected “wow” moment, and I am here for it. Case in point: Haneen’s Haven took things to the next level by transforming an entire ceiling with books. Yes, books. And honestly? I couldn’t love it more.

Do you see why I’m so obsessed!?

2. Maximalism Held Its Ground

Maximalism continued to shine in 2024, with layered textures, vibrant patterns, and unapologetically bold spaces. The personality and joy this trend brings to a home is truly unmatched.

3. Dark Kitchens Dominated

Dark kitchens brought the drama this year, and they didn’t disappoint. Deep, moody hues, think maroon, navy, and deep greens, paired with warm woods and soft lighting created spaces that felt both sophisticated and lived-in. They’re proof that bold design choices can feel surprisingly livable.

2025 Trends I’m Ready to Embrace

1. Earthy, Nature-Inspired Colors

Soft greens, clay tones, and warm neutrals are set to take over in 2025, and I’m so ready. These colors create a sense of calm and connection to nature that feels timeless and restorative.

Benjamin Moore’s 2025 Color Palette leans into earthy tones with subtle neutral undertones, creating a grounded and versatile look.

2. Curves That Invite You In

Rounded furniture, arched doorways, and organic shapes are continuing to make waves, and I couldn’t be more excited. They bring softness and flow to spaces, making everything feel a little more approachable and homey.

Embrace the curves in style—just like Heidi Caillier did in her stunning East Hampton home design.

3. Vintage Pieces with a Modern Twist

Vintage decor is getting an exciting upgrade this year. Antique treasures and classic details like crown and dentil molding, traditional-shaped railings, and elegant, tufted furniture are being reimagined alongside contemporary elements. Add in touches like marble accents, and you’ve got spaces that feel both timeless and modern—a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation.

This stunning home design by Marie Flanigan Interiors strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and traditional elements.

What’s Out for 2025

While some trends still have their place, the overly distressed farmhouse look is finally stepping aside for more refined, layered designs. Think of it as a natural evolution, still warm and inviting, but with a touch more sophistication.

Looking Ahead

2024 was full of bold moves and fresh ideas, and 2025 looks just as promising. From earthy tones to vintage treasures, the trends coming up are all about creating spaces that feel intentional, personal, and full of life.

Which trends are you excited to try this year? Let’s bring some of these ideas into your home and make 2025 your most stylish year yet.
