I’ve been in a very chaotic mood lately.
Pining fics, funny banter, questionable decisions, emotional damage… you know, balance.
Some of these fics wrecked me, some were just so fun, and a couple are now permanently living in my brain whether I like it or not.
This is what I’ve read lately, and why I think you should too!

Author’s Summary:
Five years after the war, Hermione Granger has very little time for something like a relationship. She’s far too busy trying to run the Bureau for Endangered Creatures efficiently, dealing with budget cuts and ignorant ministry officials and finding a way to somehow restore her parents’ memories, who are still in Australia and none the wiser about the existence of their daughter.
When she discovers that the Wizengamot plans to use Draco Malfoy as a scapegoat whilst dealing with elusive Voldemort loyalists, she offers to testify for him. She’s not quite sure how it led to her trying on wedding dresses under the watchful eye of Narcissa Malfoy.
My thoughts:
Possibly my favorite portrayal of Lucius. Which I was not expecting but here we are.
Also… no Ron bashing. I do occasionally love to see that in a fic.
And I so love a close Harry/Hermione friendship. It just feels a little wrong when they’re not, unless the author really sells it.
This is another (semi) forced marriage, slower burn, and honestly just an absolute win.

Loved the take on this one and it actually kept me on edge the entire time, which is rare for something this long.

My thoughts:
Fun. Easy. Exactly what I needed between longer fics.
And honestly… who doesn’t love a pining Draco. Immediate yes.

Perfect palate cleanser between longer fics.
Cute, a little chaotic, a little spicy, and just enough magic to make it fun without being over-the-top.

THE. BANTER.
If there is one thing Roxy is going to do, it’s write banter that is perfection. Not forced, not awkward, just… so freaking good. And funny, so funny. I couldn’t get enough of this fic.
This is officially in my “I will recommend this to everyone” category.

Holy shit.
This one lingers. Like you finish it and just kind of sit there for a minute.
The pining. The angst. The emotional damage.
There’s a lot of spice, but it actually feels like it means something instead of just being thrown in. If you like an angsty Draco… this fic is for you.
Two Weddings and a Man Hunt (linked here)

Author’s Summary:
Of all the things Draco had expected to bear witness to that evening at his best friend’s bachelor party, watching war heroine, Hermione Granger bounce a witches face off a table had not been one of them. Then again, the event’s following weren’t exactly things Draco planned for either.

The story in which Draco and Hermione wake up married after a drunken night out
My thoughts:
This hit all my favorite tropes in one go.
Forced proximity, found family, friends to lovers, magical marriage chaos… yes please.
Also loved seeing Draco and Hermione actually be funny together instead of just suffering the entire time (but don’t get me wrong… I do love the suffering).
Final Thoughts
This was a very solid reading stretch. I definitely found some new favorites.
If you’re looking for a mix of longer, emotionally damaging fics and shorter ones you can finish in one sitting without spiraling… this is a good place to start.
