I didn’t wake up one day and decide to overhaul my entire life. No dramatic routine, no 5am wakeups, no “new version of me” talk.
I just decided to channel my more spiritual side and I picked up a few small, slightly woo-woo habits that felt easy enough to try… and I started to notice something… they work. Not perfectly. Maybe not consistently. But enough that I actually noticed a positive difference in my life.
None of these are groundbreaking. You’ve probably heard versions of all of them before. But these are the ones that, for whatever reason, actually made it into my real, everyday life. And truly do make it better.
1. Smiling on purpose
When I see or hear something that makes me happy, I make a point to actually smile. Not a polite little acknowledgment smile. I mean a full on, teeth-out, smile.
It sounds stupidly simple, but it works immediately. It shifts my mood faster than almost anything else.
It’s like a tiny, instant dopamine hit I can trigger on command. And the more I do it, the easier it is to pull myself out of whatever mood I was in before.
I used to just notice things that made me happy. Now I actually respond to them. And for whatever reason, that small shift makes a big difference.

2. Carrying a notebook everywhere
I started carrying a notebook with me to write down thoughts, ideas, random observations… whatever comes up.
And I know… we all have notes apps. I use mine too (way too much). But there’s just something about pen to paper that feels better.
It’s slower. It feels more intentional. Just a bit more romantic, honestly.
I don’t even write anything life-changing, but writing things down clears my head in a way typing never does.
Plus, your girl loves a to-do list. Checking items off a list makes me feel infinitely more productive.

3. Sitting in silence for at least 15 minutes a day
No music. No audiobook. No background noise. No phone. Ideally outside if the weather allows.
And yes, I realize how ridiculous it sounds to say I had to “learn how to sit in silence for 15 minutes.”
But the thing about me is… I always have something playing. Music, audiobooks, even a sound machine at night. There’s always noise.
So when I started intentionally removing that for even 15 minutes, I noticed how much it actually affected me… in a positive way.
It clears my mind in the best way. And oddly enough, it lifts my mood too. I feel lighter.
It’s quiet. It’s simple. And it works.

4. Pillow mist before bed
This one feels the most unnecessary… and also pretty effective.
I started using a pillow mist at night, and somehow it has trained my brain that it’s time to shut down. It puts me right into sleep mode.
It’s such a small thing, but it makes my bedroom feel calmer, more intentional, and honestly just better.

5. Being… delusionally optimistic
This is where we fully step into the “woo woo but I’m not fighting it anymore” category.
If something doesn’t go my way, I’ve started saying to the universe:
“Show me how good it can get.”
And then I just assume (borderline delusionally) that whatever happens next is going to work out in my favor. I expect things will be the way I want them to be and somehow… they are.
Is this scientifically backed? I have no idea.
Does it actually make a positive impact? Surprisingly, yes.
Instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios, I’ve trained myself to expect good outcomes. Not in a toxic positivity way. Just in a “this is probably going to work out better than I expected” way.
And honestly, it usually does. Or at the very least, I handle it better.

Final thoughts
None of these habits are complicated. That’s really kind of the point.
They’re easy enough to try, flexible enough to stick, and subtle enough that you don’t feel like you’re forcing a completely different lifestyle.
And for me, that’s what actually makes something sustainable.
If you try any of these, I’d love to know which one you start with (or if you already do something similar).
