I went down a niche perfume rabbit hole recently and ordered way too many samples because I wanted to find something that didn’t smell like everyone else. Some were weird. Some were way too strong. Most of them just weren’t something I could imagine wearing regularly.
But these are the ones I actually kept. The ones I reach for without thinking. The ones that made me immediately want a full bottle.
If you’re new to niche perfume and don’t know where to start, these are all amazing first picks.

Poppy Riot by Room 1015
Smells clean and fresh with a sweeter edge to it. It has a soft, airy feel that makes it easy to wear every day without getting tired of it. Not overpowering, not boring. There’s something a little bohemian about it. It’s just a really solid “put together” scent. Will definitely be adding this to my daily rotation.
Scent Notes
Head: Bitter Orange, Prune, Green Mandarin
Heart: Poppy Accord, Saffron Milk, Davana
Base: Tobacco, Havanawood, Tonka, Sublimolide

Morning Chess by Vilhelm Parfumerie
Literally my new all time favorite scent for spring/summer (or seriously anytime of year). So crisp and bright, but slightly earthy. Then it dries down to a subtly sweeter note. God I want to bathe in this scent!
It smells fresh but still interesting, not flat or generic. Every time I wear it I notice it again and again throughout the day. And it last on my clothes for DAYS. I can not get enough. Will be buying this on repeat for the foreseeable future.
Scent Notes
Top: Bergamot
Middle: Tuscan Leather, Galbanum
Base: Patchouli, Black Amber

Pilgrim by Chapel Factory
This one gives a very polished, put together vibe. You know those really put together, “clean girl” aesthetic people on Pinterest?… this is what I would imagine they smell like. It smells rich, but softer and more understated. Nothing sharp or loud about it.
Just a quietly classy kind of scent.
Scent Notes
Top: Incense Essence, Juniper Wood, Silt
Heart: Brown Seaweed, Marine Accord, Black Benzoin
Base: Ambergris, Moss, Leather

Dandelion Butter by Clue
This is like someone brewed a sweet dandelion tea and added a splash of heavy cream. Rich and buttery but still light enough to wear comfortably. Definitely floral forward, but in a very soft way.
I’ve never been a fan of strong florals at all, and this one surprised me. It feels comforting and familiar without being powdery or heavy.
If you’re from the Midwest, like me, there is just something so nostalgic about this smell. I’m kind of obsessed.
Scent Notes
Top: Pollen, Dandelion Greens
Middle: Yellow Dandelion, Snapped Stem, Milky Sap
Base: Salted Butter, Dandelion-Stained Chin

N. 818 by Noteworthy
Bright and crisp, but not grassy or sharp. Apple forward with a muskier undertone that keeps it from smelling overly fruity. Clean, fresh, slightly cozy.
Perfect year round. This is one that I constantly go back to.
Scent Notes
Top: Juicy Apple, Rosewood
Middle: Jasmine, Ozone, Benzyl Salicylate, Milk
Base: Musk, Woods

Green Grape Beer by Villa Erbatium
This one is my “hear me out” pick because the opening is definitely unusual (spoiler alert: it’s beer). But once it dries down it becomes a fresh, fizzy sweet green grape scent that’s surprisingly addictive.
It feels energetic and different from anything else I’ve tried. Not something everyone will love, but if you like unique fresh scents, it’s worth trying.
Scent Notes
Green Apple, White Lager, Green Grape, Aldehydes

Final Thoughts
If you’re curious about niche perfume but don’t want to waste money guessing, you really can’t go wrong with any of these. They all feel distinctive without being hard to wear, noticeable without being overwhelming, and interesting enough to stand out.
I’ll probably keep testing more because apparently this is my hyperfixation now, so let me know if you want a part two!
