Design the Perfect Dark Academia Styled Room

Hey friends!

If you’ve been dreaming about creating the perfect cozy, moody Dark Academia-inspired space, you’re in the right place. I’ve recently mocked up a design for a Dark Academia-style study and bedroom, and today I’m sharing all the products I used to bring these spaces to life. These products span from budget to more high-end pieces. And keep in mind that there are a million options out there, so never feel like you have to buy something you don’t love or that is outside of your budget!

Think deep colors, vintage-inspired furniture, and a mix of textures that make you feel like you’ve stepped into an old library or a Gothic university dorm. Ready to dive in? Let’s go shopping!

Dark Academia Study: A Scholarly Escape

In the study, I wanted to capture the essence of an old-world library with rich textures, vintage accents, and cozy reading nooks. Here’s how you can recreate this look with products I love.

1. Deep Navy Plaid Walls

Plaid wallpaper sets the tone for the whole room, adding depth and texture. The pattern gives off that old-world, academic vibe that’s central to the Dark Academia aesthetic.

2. Green Tufted Chaise Lounge

The green tufted chaise lounge is the perfect piece to curl up on with a good book or just to relax with a cup of tea. Its deep green color contrasts beautifully with the dark walls.

3. Dark Wood Buffet

A dark wooden buffet brings an element of old-world charm. I styled it with vintage books, gothic-inspired candle holder, and whiskey decanters to complete the sophisticated look.

4. Brass Wall Sconces

Lighting is key in creating a moody, academic space. Brass wall sconces bring warmth and a touch of vintage luxury to the room.

5. Vintage-Inspired Globe

No study is complete without a globe! This vintage-style piece adds a scholarly vibe and is a great decorative accent.

6. Vintage-Inspired Rug

A vintage-style rug adds texture and warmth, grounding the space and tying all the elements together. The patterns and muted colors give it that old-world feel.

7. Club Chair

For added comfort and style, the toasted velvet club chair is a must-have. Its warm tone and plush fabric make it the perfect reading chair.

8. Velvet Chandelier

A chandelier in olive green velvet adds a splash of luxurious color and brings a touch of drama to the study’s ceiling.

9. Vintage-Inspired Art

Dark Academia Bedroom: Cozy, Moody, and Elegant

The bedroom is all about comfort and sophistication, with rich textures and vintage elements that create a restful, inviting space. Here’s how I designed it, and you can too!

1. Plaid Throw Blanket

To keep things cozy while embracing the Dark Academia vibe, I added a plaid throw blanket. This layer adds texture and warmth while keeping the look classic and timeless.

2. Upholstered Wingback Bed

For the bed, I chose a deep brown upholstered wingback design that feels luxurious and timeless. Its classic shape adds a sense of grandeur and is a perfect anchor for the room.

3. 6-Light Chandelier

This brass chandelier with cream shades brings an elegant, warm glow to the room and ties in beautifully with the vintage-inspired look.

4. Plaid and Forest-Themed Throw Pillows

Throw pillows in plaid and forest-themed patterns add cozy layers to the bed and enhance the natural, moody vibe of the room.

5. Leather Club Chair

A leather club chair adds a classic and comfortable reading spot to the bedroom. Its timeless appeal pairs perfectly with the rest of the space.

6. Vintage-Style Side Table

Next to the bed, a vintage-style wood side table provides the perfect place to rest a book or a cup of tea. Its wood tones and vintage style add to the moody aesthetic.

7. Wall Sconces

These brass sconces with red floral shades add a pop of color and vintage charm, providing soft, warm lighting next to the bed.

8. Pendant Light

For an extra touch of elegance, I added a red antique-inspired floral pendant light, which makes for a beautiful addition to the room.

9. End-of-Bed Bench

At the foot of the bed, I selected a black iron bench with a cream upholstered seat. It adds a touch of lighter color tones while keeping the space moody and inviting.

10. Desk Area

A black spindle desk offers a place to journal or display vintage decor. Its cleaner lines balance the heavier pieces in the room.

11. Vintage Wall Art

Lastly, vintage-inspired wall art ties everything together. I chose botanical prints and antique-inspired pieces to complement the Dark Academia theme.
