Autumn Refresh: Simple Ways to Transition Your Home for Fall (with links!)

 Hey everyone!

Alright, it’s officially October, which means it’s time to trade in those summer vibes for something a bit more pumpkin spice. There’s just something about this time of year (crisp air, cozy sweaters, and all the warm tones) that makes me want to curl up at home and fully embrace the fall spirit. If you’re feeling the same, I’ve got you covered with some easy ways to transition your home decor for autumn that don’t require a complete makeover… because let’s be real, we want cozy, not complicated.

1. Shift Your Color Palette to Cozy Tones

First things first, let’s talk color. Fall is all about those deep, warm hues that make you feel instantly at ease. You don’t need to paint your walls unless you want to, a few simple swaps will do the trick.

Think about bringing in rich colors like burnt orange, mustard yellow, deep red, and forest green. Switch out your light, breezy summer throw pillows for some in these cozy tones. Add a new blanket to your sofa in a rich, warm color that practically begs you to take a nap. Even swapping out artwork or adding some new prints that are fall themed or in warmer hues can make a big difference. I have recently been obsessed with the art prints or digital downloads on Etsy. Below I linked some of my favorites!

2. Layer Up with Cozy Textures

Fall is the time to embrace all things soft and snuggly. Adding some layers of texture will make your space feel like a cozy haven you never want to leave.

Add a chunky knit throw to your couch or bed, replace lightweight curtains with heavier fabrics, or throw down a wool or jute rug for that layered warmth. And don’t forget about throw pillows, velvet or cable-knit are both a great addition this season. It’s all about creating those comfy, layered vibes that scream “let’s just stay in tonight.”

I have this one in my living room and it’s the perfect cozy blanket for the fall! And on sale now! It is linked HERE.

3. Nature-Inspired Decor for That Fall Feel

Nature is basically giving us all the fall decor we need. Bring the outdoors in with some easy, nature-inspired touches that instantly give your space those autumn feels.

  • Pumpkins and Gourds: They’re classic for a reason. Scatter a few small ones on your mantle or dining table or create a cute display on your entry table.
  • Fall Foliage: Bring in branches with colorful leaves, some dried grasses, or even wheat stalks. Put them in a vase for an easy, chic centerpiece.
  • Pinecones and Acorns: Fill a decorative bowl with pinecones or acorns for a natural touch.

For our entry table I added a pumpkin candle and switched out our white lamp shade for a fun brown and white gingham print.

4. Make It Smell Like Fall

Okay, let’s be honest: the scent of fall might be the most magical part of the whole season. Bring in those cozy aromas that make you feel instantly at home—think apple spice, cinnamon, pumpkin, cedarwood, and vanilla.

Light a candle or two (or five—no one’s judging), use a diffuser with fall essential oils, or even simmer a pot of water with some cinnamon sticks, orange peels, and cloves on the stove. Trust me, the second your home smells like a cozy fall day, it’s game over for productivity, it’s all about comfort.

This Harvest Chesnut candle from Target is my new favorite fall smell. It’s seriously so good!

Another of my favorite autumn scents, for those who prefer diffusers over candles, is the Pumpkin Pie essential oil blend from Revive. What I do to get the perfect warm, cozy scent is mix 5 drops Pumpkin Pie, 2 drops Vanilla, and 1 drop Cinnamon. It is just the perfect smell for fall! I linked all of these below.

5. Front Door Refresh: First Impressions Matter

Your entryway sets the tone for your home, so give it a little love this fall. Adding a wreath will go a long way. Layer doormats for a fun, welcoming look. A cute patterned one on top of a larger natural fiber mat does the trick. And don’t forget to add a few planters with mums, ornamental cabbages, or even pumpkins for that little extra burst of fall color.

Our wreath was from last year’s collection from Target, but below are some options that are still in stock that I love too.

Final Thoughts

Fall is all about embracing warmth, comfort, and a little bit of magic. You don’t need to go all out to make your home feel cozy. Just a few thoughtful touches here and there will do the job. So, grab a mug of something warm, put on your favorite oversized sweater, and get ready to transform your home into a fall oasis.

Let me know in the comments what your favorite fall decor swaps are. I’m always on the lookout for new cozy ideas! And thanks, as always, for being here today!
