I went into September telling myself I’d slow down a little. I did not (is anyone surprised here?). The fics list grew, my sleep schedule suffered, and… I regret nothing. This month’s lineup had everything: pining, heartbreak, yummy banter, Veritaserum confessions, and a fair amount of emotional damage. Basically, it was perfection.
Here’s what I read (and freaking loved):
1. The Muffliato Rule by orolin
Words: 21k | Chapters: 3 | Completed
A one-night stand between Hermione and Draco then by a twisted strike of fate, Draco is assigned as her personal protection officer. She’s the Minister for Magic now, and he’s the definition of “this is fine” while internally combusting. And who doesn’t love a pining Draco? The tension is high, the longing is perfectly painful, and it’s pure rom-com chaos with a side of emotion.

2. Tell Me a Story by orolin
Words: 54k | Chapters: 15 | Completed
Draco and Hermione are trapped together at Theo’s countryside retreat, writing smut back and forth to each other like it’s no big deal. Except it is. The slow burn, the banter, and the tension make this one feel like being stuck in the middle of a storm with your favorite disaster couple. Bonus points for a sassy Theo (my favorite kind) and the still underrated Theo/Harry side pairing that completely stole my heart.

3. A Thousand Times by LadyUrsa
Words: 18k | Chapters: 4 | Completed
This one hurt in the best way. Draco has occluded away his memories of Hermione, and what follows is the quiet devastation that comes after. The writing is stunning, lyrical, and gut-wrenching in that slow, inevitable way. I loved the beauty of an unlikely Slytherin/Gryffindor alliance woven through it. LadyUrsa is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors.

4. Summer by MeropeReads
Words: 36k | Chapters: 10 | Completed
Omegaverse Dramione strikes again! No one, including Hermione, knows she’s an omega until she does a spell that awakens something deeper. Draco, of course, feels the pull instantly and spends most of the fic fighting instincts and some terrible advice. It’s messy, magnetic, and surprisingly emotional beneath the spice.

5. Veritaserum Truths by GalacticSiren
Words: 7k | Chapters: 1 | Completed
A round of Truth or Dare goes sideways when Veritaserum gets involved. Hermione ends up confessing exactly what she wants Draco to do to her, and he’s more than happy to make it happen. It’s short, spicy, and proof that sometimes chaos under magical influence really is a gift.

6. Friends, Enemies, and All the Broken People by lost_poet
Words: 100k | Chapters: 22 | Completed
Hermione joins a post-war Hogwarts house exchange program and ends up in Slytherin. What follows is found family, healing, and a well-deserved amount of Ron-bashing. This fic is emotional without being heavy-handed and digs into how the war shaped everyone differently. Easily one of my new favorite Slytherin-centered fics.

7. In Your Mind / Out of Mine by ambpersand
Words: 27k | Chapters: 4 | Completed
This one is pure, telepathic tension. Hermione keeps thinking about Draco in ways she shouldn’t, and then he starts hearing it. The connection that follows is equal parts sensual and maddening. This fic perfectly blends emotional chaos and heat, pulling you in until you forget all your plans for the day.

8. The Art of Groveling by CreativeWriter92
Words: 58k | Chapters: 29 | Completed
Draco and Hermione have been secretly together since sixth year, but just before she can tell him she’s pregnant, he ends things to honor his betrothal to Astoria. Months later, he sees her again (still very much pregnant, and Draco learns this little tidbit from across a ballroom) and realizes just how badly he messed up. The groveling is exquisite, the angst is thick, and it’s everything you want in a redemption fic.

Wrap-Up
September was heavy on the longing and light on the sleep, which feels on brand at this point. From cursed bonds to messy one-night stands and memory-wiped heartbreak, every story hit in its own way. If you like your Dramione with tension, regret, and the occasional Veritaserum confession, this list won’t disappoint.
And that wraps up my September lineup, and honestly, it was a solid mix of emotional destruction and perfect chaos. If you’ve read any of these, I’d love to hear what you thought. Or if there’s a fic you think I must read asap, drop it in the comments so I can add it to next month’s list!
