The Design Style All Over TikTok That I Cannot Stop Thinking About

There is a design style completely dominating my TikTok feed right now and I stop every single time it comes up. No hesitation. I am locked in.

It doesn’t really have a true name as far as I know, which honestly feels perfect for it. If I had to label it, I’d call it traditional eclectic with mid-century modern influences.

This style feels like someone finally decided to stop asking for permission to just do what they want. And you know I love that.

The foundation is classic, on purpose

What I love most is that it starts with very solid, timeless basics. Stuff that already works and doesn’t need defending.

Things like:

  • wood tones that feel warm, not trendy

  • subway tile that isn’t trying to reinvent itself

  • brass and chrome and other mixed metals showing up in the same room and getting along

  • bold marble that isn’t afraid to be the main character

Nothing about the base of these spaces feels chaotic. That’s what makes everything layered on top work.

For all things collected, eclectic aesthetic, you have to be following Madeline Edwards.

The color choices are bold and not apologetic

This is not a “neutral with two accent pillows” situation.

Color is everywhere, and it’s doing whatever it wants. Lime green shows up where you don’t expect it. Fuchsia makes an appearance in the kitchen. Deep reds ground the space and somehow make everything feel richer.

And yes, I stand by this forever.
Leopard print is a neutral.
This style proves it again and again.

If you truly want a dose of pure happiness when you log onto TikTok, do yourself a favor and give lanawilman a follow.

Gallery walls that feel like real people live there

The art in these spaces is one of my favorite parts. Nothing looks overly planned or matchy.

You see:

  • mixed frame finishes

  • photography next to sketches

  • art that feels found, not sourced from the same collection

It looks collected over time. Like someone actually lives there and didn’t panic-order everything in one afternoon.

Ceramics everywhere, which I fully support

Ceramic pieces are doing a lot of work here and I love it. Bowls, vases, lamps, objects that are maybe decorative, maybe functional, maybe both.

The shapes are playful. Food-inspired. Ruffled. Bubbled. Slightly weird in a way that feels fun, not try-hard.

And enamel deserves special recognition, especially in lighting. Lamps and sconces in enamel finishes are showing up constantly and they are always my favorite detail in the room.

Another one of my favs on TikTok for a little hit of dopamine, this is grace lotti.

Old and new mixed without making it a thing

Another reason this style feels so good is that it’s not precious about where things come from. New pieces live comfortably next to thrifted and vintage finds.

It feels approachable. Like something you build slowly instead of something you buy all at once.

One page that never fails to disappoint is Eloise Preen. It’s the perfect eclectic midcentury modern home. ♥️

Why this style is everywhere right now

I really think it comes down to this.

People just want to be happy in their homes.

Not impressed. Not validated. And definitely not following rules they never agreed to. Just happy.

This is dopamine styling in the best way. It prioritizes personality over perfection and lets people do what actually makes them feel good in their space.

There are people who want their homes to feel like a museum. And that’s fine.

But this style clearly belongs to people who don’t.

And honestly, I love that.

I love how Matilda‘s home is so perfectly hers. Cozy, chic, and fun.

Final thoughts

If there’s one thing I keep coming back to with this style, it’s that it gives people permission to like what they like. No rules, no “design math,” no worrying about whether something technically goes together. If it makes you happy, it belongs in your home. That feels like a pretty good place for design to land right now.

If you’re drawn to this look but not sure where to start, start small. A lamp you love. A thrifted piece that feels fun. A color that makes you smile every time you walk into the room. You don’t have to commit to everything all at once for it to work. That is my favorite thing about this design style… it’s collected, not curated.

If you’re loving this style as much as I am, save this post for later and share it with someone who also thinks leopard is a neutral 😉 .
