11 Underrated Fanfics You Need to Read Right Now | Dramione

If you’ve ever read a fanfic so good it made you question why traditional publishing even exists… trust me, you’re not alone. There are some fanfics that take over your life, your sleep schedule, and your will to do anything productive. There are the classics — Manacled, Isolation, The Rights and Wrongs — but this post isn’t about those. This is for the lesser known ones that made you spiral. The ones that got buried on page six of someone’s save list. The ones I keep yelling about to your group chat (and I’m going to keep on yelling) even though no one asked.

This post is a tribute to those fics… the ones that should be way more famous than they are. They’re underrated, under-bookmarked, or just criminally slept on. So get out your fluffy blanket, grab your emotional support snack, and get ready to spiral. Let’s dig into 11 fics that deserve way more attention (and probably [definitely] a publishing deal).

1. Oops! I Joined The Good Guys by Rogue_Roxy

Words: 97k | Chapters: 25 | Hits: 146k
The war goes sideways, and Draco accidentally becomes part of the Golden Trio. Rules are made. Hijinks ensue. No one knows what to do with this new arrangement, least of all Draco himself. This fic is hilarious, unhinged, and somehow also emotional in the way only a fanfic fever dream can be. This fic had me cackling out loud and made my husband seriously concerned for my mental health. It was a wild ride, and I haven’t had that much fun reading a book since I read “Here’s the Deal” (more on that one later *wink*). I didn’t know what I needed in life was a happy wartime fic, but this fic definitely hit the spot.

2. Virulence by three_piece_suit

Words: 136k| Chapters: 39 | Hits: 94k
Deputy Headmistress Hermione Granger is trying to save the wizarding world from a virus that’s draining everyone’s magic and unfortunately, her only lead is currently rotting in Azkaban. Enter Draco Malfoy: ex-Death Eater, walking trauma response, and now her lab assistant. This one is tense, brilliant, and absolutely worth the emotional destruction. This one has the tension, the teeeennnnsssssiiiooonnn.  Draco is bitter and brilliant. Hermione is tired and brilliant. You will feel everything and then some. In the business this one is what you call an instant favorite.

3. I Will Make You Proud by wheredoesshego

Words: 222k | Chapters: 35 | Hits: 351k
Draco’s gone. Hermione finds his memories. What follows is a slow reveal of love, loss, and the unraveling of everything she thought she knew. It’s painful in the best way and beautiful in the most frustrating way. You will absolutely sob at 2am over this man’s trauma, the writing done by this author will ensure it. Ughhhh… just read it okay?!

4. Things We Say In The Dark by rubber_soulo2

Words: 128k | Chapters: 20 | Hits: 311k
Professors Granger and Malfoy. Academic rivalry. Bookish insults. Suppressed feelings so intense they could probably power Hogwarts. This fic delivers longing, and late-night conversations that will destroy you in the gentlest possible way. The banter is top shelf, absolute perfection. I could not get enough of it. This one immediately went on my “always recommend” list.

5. Timeless by alexandra_emerson

Words: 311k | Chapters: 50 | Hits: 640k
Draco time-travels and sees a future where he’s married to Hermione. Cue panic. Cue sabotage. And then cue destiny coming for him anyway. It’s rich with emotion, steeped in fate, and unfolds like an enemies-to-lovers dream. It had me sobbing, laughing, all the things. Character development = perfection. Timeline jumps = perfection. The writing = perfection. Are we sensing a theme here??

6. A Hard Row to Hoe by blessdtoaster

Words: 250k | Chapters: 30 | Hits: 215k
This fic is pure chaos in the best possible wrapper. Draco’s an assassin with rage issues. Hermione’s got no time for it. There’s a therapist. There are goats. There’s Theo Nott being an absolute menace (which is my favorite kind of Theo). Unhinged, unfiltered, unforgettable. I immediately sent it to my fan fic friends with the download link… and I think you should download it too *wink*.

7. All You Want by senlinyu

Words: 172k | Chapters: 36 | Hits: 2.4M
Yes, it’s technically popular, but somehow still underrated for how iconic it is. Eighth year, Omegaverse, and a Hermione who doesn’t back down. The emotional tension is so solid you could lean on it. This fic is addictive, character-rich, and probably responsible for half of AO3’s Omegaverse resurgence… and definitely kick-started my love for them. If you haven’t read it, cancel your plans and get to downloading.

8. Amor Vincit Omnia by twin_flame_blues

Words: 288k | Chapters: 32 | Hits: 1.3m
Hermione finds out Ron cheated on her. Harry knew. Everyone betrayed her, basically. So, she builds a new life with Theo, Blaise, and Pansy…  just in time for Draco (her secret Hogwarts love) to come back and ruin her emotional stability. It’s full of heartache, found family, and second chances that actually feel earned. This one is about healing, betrayal, and figuring out who you are when everything falls apart.

9. The Gloriana Set by thebemoon

Words: 271k | Chapters: 81 | Hits: 827k
Cursed heirlooms, magical mysteries, and an eighth year where absolutely no one is okay. This fic has it all… an inappropriate Moaning Myrtle, slow-burn tension, and a Draco Malfoy whose redemption arc feels earned, not forced. Add in Pansy being iconic and Theo being feral, and it’s everything you could ever want in a fic.

10. Echos in Time by emeraldsinthedark

Words: 50k | Chapters: 11 | Hits: 25k
Yes, it’s “Echos” and no, I’m not over it. This fic of nearly-there moments between Draco and Hermione. Wrong time, wrong place, wrong everything except for how they keep finding their way back to each other. Told over ten years, this is a story of missed chances, near-confessions, and the kind of longing that makes your chest ache. Their timing is never right, but somehow fate keeps bringing them back. A quiet, devastatingly beautiful fic that deserves to be on every rec list.

11. Here’s the Deal by Lilian_Silver

Words: 47,146 | Chapters: 14 | Hits: 53k
8th year Dramione, but make it absurd. This fic is part satire, part romance, and 100% unfiltered chaos. I was laughing out loud throughout the whole of this fic and I ate it up in a day. The author’s note says they wrote it high and honestly? That checks out. If you love a chaos-fic with a core of emotional truth, this is the one for you. *chefs kiss*
